Early Modern Reading Group

Funded by the Davis Humanities Institute, the Early Modern Reading Group is a student-run, interdisciplinary group that organizes workshops and discussions on topics in early modern studies that are of particular concern to graduate students. This year, the group is running a series of workshops on professionalization in the field of early modern studies, including workshops on grant writing and on research-oriented pedagogy. The EMRG also organizes meetings at which graduate students can read the work of scholars who will be visiting the campus for public lectures, thereby enabling graduate student to prepare for and get the most out of those visits. Finally, the EMRG provides opportunities for faculty and students to present their work in progress, and the group has been especially helpful in introducing new colleagues and their work to the community of early modernists.
